[A letter for our international students]

To our internal students,

Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus (2019-nCov), there are many unexpected fluctuations, which have affected our daily activities and school events. First, I would like to express my care and concern to all of our internal students in NKUST. Studying abroad is very challenging since you need to confront more obstacles than do the local students. Although you are studying in Taiwan alone, NKUST is your shelter.

Owing to the deterioration of the disease, there are certain restrictions on international transportations. The passengers who have visited China recently are not allowed to enter Taiwan at the present time. If you are not able to arrive at Taiwan for the new semester on time, we have a complete supporting system to help you solve the   problems, such as delayed registration, long-distance learning, credit recognition, etc., to protect your right of education.

If you are already in Taiwan and need to be in quarantine, please keep in touch with the Office of International Affairs and report your situations to the personnel. They will offer you instant supports whenever you need. If you are on your way to Taiwan but detained in another country, please also contact the personnel in the Office of International Affairs. Let them understand your situation so that they can offer you in-time assistance if necessary.

Although we have different nationalities, we are all on the same boat and are fighting the disease together. I do care about every student in NKUST. I hope we can develop a stronger connection with one another while fighting the virus. We should all implement the protective measures and be considerate of everyone around us.

Taiwan’s public health system and medical standard of care are renowned worldwide. It is not necessary to worry about the lack of medical supports while you are studying here. But, it cannot be denied that the new virus is very unknown and the situation is still very challenging. I hope our students could actively stay in close contact with our school personnel. Many instant English reports about the coronavirus are available on our government’s official websites. Please cooperate with the government’s regulations positively.

If you have any doubt and/or worries, you may contact our school faculty members anytime. NKUST is your home in Taiwan. I would like to express my deepest concern about the wellbeing of everyone in NKUST. Hopefully, we will be back to our regular life very soon.

President Ching-yu Yang
